We teach people how to direct generative AI and check what it produces in their teaching and research. We offer courses and workshops, and work with schools and organisations on professional learning.
Dr Brian Ballsun-Stanton
Dr Brian Ballsun-Stanton is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University. He leads the Faculty of Arts’ work on AI in research and teaching. He studies how people think about and use AI, how people can build effective judgement, and where to choose to increase or decrease friction. He led the creation of Macquarie’s Guidance note on Generative AI in Research, documentation checklists, and supported ethics and research data management’s thinking around AI. His work on AI and research integrity received the 2025 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Research Integrity Award. He has delivered more than 40 AI workshops in Australia, Europe, and the United States, to around 1,500 researchers and staff. He co-created the Coursera course Generative AI for Educators, which won a 2026 Outstanding Course award from the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance. He explores what it means to use AI well in daily life, teaching, and research.
Dr Jodie Torrington
Dr Jodie Torrington spent more than two decades as a primary school teacher, working in four Australian states and territories and in New Zealand. She brought that experience into research, and her doctorate examined how young children manage their own learning with digital tools. She now manages the Teachers’ Learning Hub at Macquarie University, where she turns research into professional learning for teachers.
Her research asks who students believe controls what AI gives them, a question she and Brian Ballsun-Stanton named the AI-Locus of Control. The Teachers’ Guild of NSW made her an Honorary Fellow in 2022. She is currently part of an international advisory team on AI learning design, which is supported by UNESCO.
